The shortage of semiconductor chips has plagued most manufacturer’s for months, most notably the automakers, computer industry, security video/camera market, and yes, also the 2-way radio market and Motorola radios.
The shortage has slowed production lines, causing dwindling inventories. EE has taken several steps toward ameliorating the situation, one of which is placing several additional orders for stock, rather than ordering when we have a customer need/order. “There are concerns that we will not see a dramatic improvement till Q2, 2022,” according to EE President Mark Clark. The shortage is due to many issues all crashing together, a fire at a semi-conductor plant, reduction of production due to lower orders early in the COVID era, fewer workers to make the chips during COVID, supply transportation issues, and now – pent up demand for products across several different manufactured products.
EE continues to work towards fulfilling customer orders timely, but all should be aware of extended delivery times, from three weeks to almost ten weeks. |
